Kindergarten is the start of an exciting adventure full of promise for children and their families. The Calgary Board of Education (CBE) believes in personalizing students’ learning to help them reach their full potential.

CBE schools are open toall children and are committed to embracing every student in a safe and welcoming environment. From the very first day of kindergarten, teachers begin to help children take those next steps in their learning, with the ultimate goal being for each student to complete high school.

To achieve this goal, CBE takes the time to recognize which children need additional support to achieve long-term success.  Whether it is a community school, language program, or one of  the many alternative programs, parents and guardians can choose the kindergarten program that is best for their child. Each kindergarten classroom is supported by an enhanced support team that will optimize a child’s learning experience. The team may consist of professionals such as: early learning strategists, speech-language pathologists and assistants, occupational and physical therapists and education assistants.

In addition, CBE also offers a program for preschool-aged children with exceptional needs called the Early Development Centre (EDC). Benefits of the EDC program include:

An emphasis on communication skills, fine and gross motor development, and social interaction

>  Individualized programming based on the unique strengths and needs of each child

>  An enhanced support team that includes teachers, speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, education assistants, speech-language assistants and family oriented programming facilitators and

>  Helpful strategies for parents to support their child’s development at home

By providing focused attention to these learners at an early age, we are able to work with families to prepare their child for kindergarten and beyond.

Registration for kindergarten 2015 – 16 year begins Monday Jan 12, 2015. Registration to preschool programs for exceptional learners occurs throughout the year. To learn more about kindergarten programming visit www.cbe.ab.ca/kindergarten
